Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

A large quantity in hull numbers does not ensure quality though. I wonder if this article writer took into account the combined number of ROKN and JMSDF AEGIS ships though?Defense NewsChina's DDGs Set...

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

But can they out number the combined force of US, South Korean and Japanese AEGIS ship's?

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

Skipper101, I think that is what Shang Ma Ke said. Shang Ma Ke also questions the quality and he is correct to. The USN Aegis system has been around for decades and has been continually improved over...

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

I don't think the USN even sprung for the Block II, only the JMSDF. Regardless I'd not have a lot of faith in harpoons breaking through PLAN defenses outside just depleting their SAMs to the point...

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

I'd bet a salvo of 8 Harpoons will get through the defenses of a single Chinese DDG. (I think in the real world the same salvo will do in an Aegis ship too.)

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

If either platform were alerted with its radars on, I wouldn't want to bet on it. On the other hand I wouldn't really want to be on either platform during an attack either, so fair enough. But my...

"Mind you, only all USN ships now carry Harpoons." Could you explain that a little please?

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

Chinese DDG SAMs rely on active seekers, so they're still only going to launch defensive missiles not much further than horizon range. I wouldn't bet on any ship shooting down 8 Harpoons at horizon...

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

That would not bode well for the USN then. Outside the SM-6, their SAMs are SARH and even more horizon limited, any basically any PRC combatant built in the last ten years has eight surface to surface...

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

Relying solely on your CIWS to defend against hostile missiles is like relying solely on your throne room's door to defend against attacks on your fortress.

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

PRC SAMs are illuminator bound, like the early SMs. They can't ripple them off down a bearing if another platform picks up the incoming skimmers. Granted, another PRC DDG supposedly can hand off the...

A relatively simple radio detector (ie EW) configured to detect tracking and illumination radar signals.

Doesn't the AEGIS system on a CG47 have the ability to guided 22 missile's in flight?

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

I expect that the maximum number would depend on circumstances. Presumably if they're fired at extreme range & staggered, with targets spread in distance, bearing & time (hence interception...

Re: Chinese DDGs to outnumber those of neighbours

Target range and geometry would definitely play a role. The optimal attack profile would be the largest number of weapons coming from the most diverse number of directions within the tightest time...
